Bible Verses About Peacemakers

The Sermon on the Mount is Jesus's most sustained ethical teaching — and in it, he blesses the peacemakers specifically, calling them children of God. These verses explore what it means to be a maker of peace, not merely an absence of conflict, but an active, costly pursuit of reconciliation.

Matthew 5:9
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Not the peace-keepers — those who maintain the status quo. The peace-makers: those who actively create it.

Romans 12:18
If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

As much as lieth in you — Paul acknowledges that peace isn't always achievable. But it is always our responsibility to pursue.

James 3:17-18
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

Righteousness — right living — grows in soil that peacemakers have tended. You cannot harvest it from conflict.

Matthew 5:44
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.

Peace with enemies is not passive neutrality. It is active blessing, active goodwill, active prayer.

Hebrews 12:14
Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.

Follow — actively pursue. Peace with all men. The breadth of that is not accidental.
