Bible Verses About Judgment

"Judge not" is one of the most recognized phrases in the entire Bible — and one of the most ignored. These verses present what Jesus and the apostles actually said about judgment: not a suggestion to avoid having opinions, but a serious call to examine ourselves before we examine others.

Matthew 7:1-2
Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

The standard we apply to others will be applied to us. Jesus makes this a matter of mathematics, not sentiment.

Matthew 7:3-5
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

Jesus uses the word hypocrite here — not gently, not indirectly. The call is to self-examination first.

John 8:7
He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

When the crowd wanted to judge and punish, Jesus set a condition. One by one, they walked away.

Romans 2:1
Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

Paul goes further than Jesus here: to judge another is to condemn yourself. The logic is worth sitting with.

James 4:12
There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

Four words at the end. Who art thou? It is not a rhetorical question.
