Bible Verses About Betrayal

Betrayal by someone you trusted is one of the most disorienting experiences a person can have. Scripture doesn't pretend otherwise. From David's psalms to Jesus's last night with his disciples, the Bible is honest about what betrayal costs — and what it doesn't have to destroy.

Psalm 55:22
Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Written by David in the aftermath of betrayal by a close friend. Cast it — the weight is not yours to carry alone.

Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

All things — including the betrayal. Not that it was good. That it is being worked toward something that is.

Matthew 5:44
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.

The hardest instruction in the Gospels. Jesus doesn't ask us to pretend the wound isn't there — he asks us to pray for the one who made it.

Isaiah 54:17
No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord.

The betrayal does not get the final word. That is the promise.

Psalm 27:10
When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.

When even the people closest to us fail — and they can — God receives us. The abandonment is not the end of the story.
