Bible Verses for Anxiety at Night

3am has its own particular kind of worry. The house is quiet, there's nothing to distract you, and every fear arrives with extra weight. Scripture was written by people who knew this — the Psalms especially are full of night prayers. These verses are for exactly that hour.

Psalm 4:8
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.

A prayer for sleep — for the specific peace of lying down and letting go. It is allowed to ask for this.

Psalm 121:3-4
He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

You can sleep because he does not. The watching does not stop because you rest.

Philippians 4:6-7
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

The thing keeping you awake — it can be brought to God right now, in the dark. The peace that follows is described as passing understanding. It doesn't have to make sense.

Psalm 56:3
What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.

What time — in the moment of fear, in the middle of the night. Trust is not waiting until morning.

Matthew 11:28
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Rest. That is what is being offered — not solutions, not explanations. Rest.

Moonlight through a curtained window, still and peaceful, nighttime quiet
