Scripture has a lot to say about payday. Wages held back overnight, the poor hired hand paid late, the harvest workers cheated out of their hire: the Bible treats these not as business matters but as wrongs that God hears about. James says the unpaid wages themselves cry out.

Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.
The wages do the crying. James gives the money a voice, and says God is listening to it.
Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob him: the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning.
Pay the hired man before sundown. Holding wages even one night is named alongside defrauding and robbing.
Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates:
'Of thy brethren, or of thy strangers.' The rule about paying the poor worker fairly applies to the foreigner exactly as it does to the neighbor.
Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.
Paul to employers: give what is just and equal, because you answer to a Master too.
For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.
The ox gets to eat while it works. So does the labourer. Paul puts the two side by side on purpose.
