There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
Paul names the deepest divisions of his world — ethnicity, class, gender — and dissolves all of them in a single sentence.
Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
It took a vision to convince Peter of this. Once he saw it, the early church could no longer belong to one people only.
The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all.

Favoring some people over others is not a small social misstep here. James calls it sin, plainly.
Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
